Just found this on CNN Go. It’s an article called “Take a stroll through Shanghai’s mosque route” and covers a number of the mosques in downtown Shanghai and where to find them. From the post:
Haven’t been to Fuyou in a while. It was the very first place I went on my own on my very first day in China. Fortunately someone there spoke Arabic. I couldn’t even muster “ni hao” back then. 5 Responses to “Shanghai Mosque walking tour” Leave a Reply |

I was over there during my first year in Shanghai and didn’t know there was a mosque. Of course, I also stumbled upon the oldest synagogue in Shanghai on that trip without searching for it.

man. i searched for the snagoge, dragging a couple half-willing friends along. took us forever to find it. cool stuff though. they had a bunch of recently unearthed chinese jewish tombstones on display, plus an art exhibit downstairs.
the mosques are pretty low key. two are near the edges of the old city; one north by 豫园 and one sort of southwest near 老西门. otherwise in pudong though i’ve not been to that one. and actually kicked out of the 老西门 one. but then i’ve been kicked out of bigger and better mosques than that so so be it.
