islam (and guest blogging) in china February 11 2009 0 comments
if you’re reading this, you’ve probably heard of the blog Islam in China. it’s a pretty solid blog on the topic with fairly vast readership. now, the creator of the blog has set up a companion site at islaminchina.info. to quote the “about us” page: [wang daiyu] created the Islam in China blog was created in October 2007. More than a year and one hundred thousand hits later I have realized that it would be a good idea to have a website devoted to this subject where some of the themes explored in the blog can be dealt with in more detail. With this particular aspect in mind I have launched this website which can also be thought of as an extension to the blog. The subject of Islam in China is an oft neglected one. In the West most people conceive of Muslims as being Arabs despite the fact that majority of the Arabs in America are Christians. Outside of China there are also many misconceptions that Muslims have about Muslims in China. Many Muslims are even surprised to learn that there are more Muslims in China than there are in Saudi Arabia. In China there a general misconception with respect to Islam being an ethnic religion which may come as a surprise to many Muslims in other countries. In China Islam is generally associated with the Hui ethnic group and sometimes with the Uyghurs.
admittedly, i also have a personal reason for telling you about this. a month or so ago, br. wang daiyu, the creator and operator of the original blog, asked for submissions. after a little discussion i gave him an article on my initial experiences with muslims in china which is now posted on the site (which you can find here). br. wang has also brought over a post from the original blog regarding that well known hadith i’ve brought up in previous posts. anyway take a look and be sure to check back often. it’s certain to become a central resource on the topic.
