changes for the new year January 24 2009 0 comments

well it’s done. the dvds are bought, the books are downloaded and the ipod is charged. tomorrow morning i’m headed to the countryside to spend a mandarin-free week of high-pressure baijiu-fueled intensive wu.

but, when i get back, i’ll be making a few changes. for one, i’ll be updating the glossary. some things were requested and i said i’d get to it but obviously i didn’t.

second, i’m setting up a new blog for the wu dialect stuff i’ve been doing lately. as blogger doesn’t really deal with sound that well and since dealing with wu pretty much requires that i can handle sound, it seemed like the right next step. expect some recorded samples from the next week.

third, new dashboard widgets. i’ve recently finished up an arabic transliteration script to convert arabic script to one of the more standard transliteration schemes. you can read about that here. in addition, i’ve set up a script to convert between ULY and UEY for writing uyghur. as such i’ll add ULY to the glossary when i’ve got it working.

in the mean time happy new year, hongbao nalai and all that. keep the comments coming.
