We the Writers of Beijing Sounds, in Order to form a more perfect understanding of Beijing society and language, seek linguistic Justice for the foreigner studying the language, insure domestic Tranquility among international Unions both business and personal, provide for the common defence of all introspective cultural observers, promote the general Welfare of objective inquiry, and secure the Blessings of a Pit of philosophers for ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the Beijing Sounds blog.
It’s gotta be real
Textbook-speak and anything that smacks of “how it’s supposed to be” is banned from these pages.
It’s gotta be researched
Don’t just make stuff up that sounds right. Check with people who spoke the language when they were fighting on the playground and naming their pet turtles.
It’s gotta have pīnyīn
Or mostly, anyway. You may find some violations. But English language sites that involve Mandarin and no pinyin should be banished to Hades or Stockton.
